It was great spending time with Shirly and Jessie, a lovely couple soon to be married this year. We spent 2 hours at Main Street Unionville for their pre-wedding shooting. It was not the first time for A.Vision Studios shooting at this unique beautiful historical site, and this time we decided to share our photo shooting experience with you so you can get prepared early.
The Main Street Unionville is a historical and tourism place founded back in 1794. It is famous for their European architecture, the pubs along the roads, and famous restaurants. Thousands of tourists visit this landmark every year and they host many different events. For example, the annual jazz music festivals and annual Unionville festival during summer. The overall view of Unionville street has not been changed since the 1974. You can literally see and feel the history yourself when you are walking on the street, and this is also another uniqueness about this neighborhood. Besides the ones mentioned above, A.Vision Studios has carefully selected 3 more suitable landmarks to do any shooting in the area for everyone:
- Old Unionville Church. (150 Main Street, L3R 2G9)
Built in 1879, by the same architect of Casa Loma. It was used to be the local veterans’ hall during World War II, and the steeple of the Unionville Old Church is engraved with names of local veterans of WWII.
- Millennium Bandstand (154 Main Street, L3R 2G9)
The Millennium Bandstand at Main Street Unionville was built in the year 2000. It is a small park and plaza for people to meet and greet or relax with families. There are music concerts every Thursday nights and Sunday at the Bandstand for free. If you are planning to pick this place, it is better to check the date and time for the concerts or events so it won’t affect your photo shoot schedule.
- Unionville Train Station (7 Station Lane, L3R 1R4)
The train station at Main Street Unionville is one of the oldest train stations in Toronto. It was built in 1871 and still having a great historical value. It is a popular location as many people love to have photo or video shoot on the track and the station.
For people who would love to have their wedding photo or commercial photo taken, you need to get a permit from the City of Markham for Historic Areas and Parks. You can call 905-477-7000 ext.6930/2300 to make your own arrangements, and the rate is $122.5 per hour. It is not for free and you should take into consideration when you plan the budget.
There is one exception for photo taking without a permit, which if the photographer is a full-time student or just shooting for a school project. Thus, remember to bring your student card if you fit under the only exception rule.
Vehicles are not allowed to park on the street, however, you can find free parking behind merchants on the east side of Main Street Unionville. There is no time limit for parking and there is more than enough parking in the lot so don’t need to worry about it even if you are running behind schedule.
